Preparing for the Chattanooga Youth Symphony Orchestra auditions again. I am more prepared this year…I actually have the correct music! (Ugh, what a fiasco, I mean learning experience, I had last year.) The music is simple, or is it? My prep work for this audition made me realize I am not nearly as far along in my studies with orchestral work as I am with jazz. An issue I plan to remedy this year, whether or not I snag a chair with Chattanooga. It is the interpretation and stylistic specifics that initially tricked me into thinking the pieces were simple. I can play what is on the sheets or I can make music. Of course, I fully intend to make music. So it is crunch time…I’m going to tap every resource I have with the time I’ve got left.
